I n late October, members of the North American Steel Alliance met in Chicago for a fall meeting. Metal Center News editors sat down with service center executives and NASA staff members for a wide-ranging discussion on the issues facing the steel distribution business and the outlook for 2018. The following is an edited transcript of that lively conversation. 16 ❘ Metal Center News — January 2018 By the Staff of Metal Center News NASA Roundtable Despite a first year in office that didn't produce all the results the metals industry was expecting, President Donald Trump's 'pro-business' perspective keeps distribution executives hopeful about the prospects for 2018 and beyond. Metal Center News: What has business activity been like in 2017, and what are you expecting for 2018? N Steve Heneveld: Overall, it's been pretty positive. We anticipate the fourth quarter to be decent also. I'm optimistic. The mills are firming up the number. You don't see that much at the end of the year. MCN: What do you attribute the optimism to? N Rick Tenenholtz: Our customers are ex- pecting tax reform. We deal with the home builder market.
